Ringwald We consider the effect of the Sudakov factor in photon-initiated processes, corresponding to the no branching probability for the initial-state photon. We demonstrate how such a factor follows simply from the solution of the DGLAP equation for the photon PDF, and is therefore included automatically by this. We use this result to argue that the appropriate scale for the QED coupling α associated with an initialstate photon is not the virtuality of the photon, but rather the factorization scale at which the photon PDF is evaluated, and therefore that the use of the on-shell renormalization scheme is not appropriate for such processes. We also discuss exclusive photon-initiated processes, and demonstrate that no explicit Sudakov factor is required in this case. © 2016 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V. Sudakov resummation for prompt - photon production in hadron collisions ∗
We present the explicit expressions for the resummation of large-xT Sudakov effects in the transverse-energy distribution of prompt-photons produced in hadronic collisions, to next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. Fragmentation processes do not contribute to the Sudakov resummation at NLL level. In Mellin space, the resummed radiative factor is the product of independent radiators for eac...
متن کاملSudakov logarithms in B → X s γ in effective field theory
We construct an effective field theory valid for processes in which highly energetic light-like particles interact with collinear and soft degrees of freedom, using the decay B → Xsγ near the endpoint of the photon spectrum, x = 2Eγ/mb → 1, as an example. Below the scale μ = mb both soft and collinear degrees of freedom are included in the effective theory, while below the scale μ = mb √ x− y, ...
متن کاملResummation of double logarithms in electroweak high energy processes
At future linear e+e− collider experiments in the TeV range, Sudakov double logarithms originating from massive boson exchange can lead to significant corrections to the cross sections of the observable processes. These effects are important for the high precision objectives of the Next Linear Collider. We use the infrared evolution equation, based on a gauge invariant dispersive method, to obt...
متن کامل1 v 1 7 A pr 2 00 0 Electroweak Bloch - Nordsieck violation at the TeV scale : “ strong ” weak interactions ?
Hard processes at the TeV scale exhibit enhanced (double log) EW corrections even for inclusive observables, leading to violation of the Bloch-Nordsieck theorem. This effect, previously related to the non abelian nature of free EW charges in the initial state (ee, ep, pp ...), is here investigated for fermion initiated hard processes and to all orders in EW couplings. We find that the effect is...
متن کاملNew Insights into the Perturbative Structure of Electroweak Sudakov Logarithms: Breakdown of Conventional Exponentiation
To match the expected experimental precision at future linear colliders, improved theoretical predictions beyond next-to-leading order are required. At the anticipated energy scale of √ s = 1 TeV the electroweak virtual corrections are strongly enhanced by collinear-soft Sudakov logarithms of the form log(s/M2), with M being the generic mass scale of the W and Z bosons. By choosing an appropria...
